This work actively combats the erasure of the artist’s family history. Puerto Rico was colonized in 1508 by the Spanish and 1898 by the USA. Because of this colonization, generations of Boricuas have been erased from history, as no formal documentation of their lives exists. Living Puerto Ricans rely on oral tradition, personal archival work, and US census information to document their family stories.
